Founded on Experience and Passion for Global Mobility. Relocare was founded in 2007 by Else Christensen and is rooted in her personal experiences and final thesis for her BA (Hons) in Business Administration with a specialization in strategy.
At the age of 25, Else was headhunted by a global company in Paris, where she was responsible for building a bakery development department in the EAME region within the flavor industry. Without speaking French, and within a French hierarchical culture, she experienced culture shock on both sides – both as a Danish employee and for her French colleagues. She encountered limited relocation support and, among other things, lived on an air mattress for six months before she dared to move her furniture to France. Nevertheless, those two years proved to be both educational and formative, after which she was headhunted by a competitor in Geneva, Switzerland.
In Switzerland, she was given expanded responsibilities within development and marketing across the EAME region, and this time she experienced professional and effective relocation support – housing, car, bank accounts, work permits, and even stable space for her horse were all arranged for her. The difference in onboarding directly impacted her job satisfaction and performance. It became clear how essential professional relocation support is.
Three years later, Else decided to complete her BA Hons. while commuting between Copenhagen and Geneva. When she became pregnant with twins, she chose to take maternity leave in Denmark and finish her degree there.
During her thesis, she explored the question:
Her personal experiences pointed in a different direction: the causes were often practical, social, and cultural – not tax-related.
She then initiated an international study focusing on salary, benefits, motivational factors, retention, and turnover.
The results revealed an unmet market need in Denmark.
Her professor said, “Start the company now – contact these key stakeholders” – and that’s how Relocare was born.
Since the beginning, Relocare has had a sound financial foundation and sustainable growth.
